In preparing this book and selecting the projects included herein, the question was not what is German Interior Design but rather who are German Interior Designers. In recent years, the terms Interior Design and Interior Designer have increasingly become fixed terms in Germany due to the fact that there is no difference in terminology in English usage for the design and for the designers of interiors. This is how the title of this book, which presents thirty-four German interior designers with their current projects, is to be seen. Whether interior architect, architect, interior decorator or interior designer, all are experts, specialists, professionals, aesthetes, and visionaries. What counts is the space, which can be inhabited and experienced through its sophisticated design. From planning to the final touch, intensive communication and a great deal of organizational skills are required to bring the specifications and ideas of the clients together with the various trades down to the last detail. This requires a special intuition for people, which all offices presented here prove in each project. This book presents unique and forward-looking spatial concepts in the areas of living, working, retail, gastronomy, trade fair construction, social institutions, and health care. Each one with its own philosophy: individual, atmospheric, sensual, tailor-made, innovative, high-quality, timeless, and sustainable. In the given spaces, materials, colors, fabrics, furniture, art, and above all light create emotions that evoke a sense of well-being among the residents, employees, visitors, guests, or patients. With a skilful balance between reduction and dynamics, spaces and people are brought together.
