Architect Oliver Spiekermann cultivates architectural traditions and reinterprets them. He is both a creative designer and an experimental free spirit who constantly questions the existing as well as a systematic analyst and researcher of the conditions that contribute to architectural design. Nor does Spiekermann allow himself to be restricted by the rigid assignments of an architect’s functions: universality is central to his image. In many of his projects, from residential to commercial to shopfitting and trade fair construction, he plans the interior and designs the individual furnishing objects himself. These include the asymmetrical “QuTina” bathtub for the “Haus Quabbe” presented here, among others. However progressive and award-winning Oliver Spiekermann’s luxury villas may be, their uniqueness has practical foundations: the confidence with which builders give wide design freedom and a guiding principle that Oliver Spiekermann’s father, who founded Spiekermann Architekten in 1956, passed on to his son: “Listen to the needs of the inhabitants!”
