Old houses with traces of use look more alive than new buildings. Architect Jenna Prahl specialises in the renovation of private, often listed buildings. The architect, who lives in Mallorca, has been writing building history for 20 years, developing very individual renovation and conversion concepts for living with life artists and courageous people and making them all over Europe. Quality, care and centuries-old craftsmanship as well as the often excellent location and plot size speak in favour of the existing buildings. But Jenna Prahl also fights for the preservation of defective, over-formed or outdated existing buildings for their sustainability. Emotional aspects, such as treating the building with respect, honouring special features and memories, and reinforcing regional identity, are essential goals in a renovation. It is precisely the supposed oddities or difficulties of the plan that then shape individuality. The challenge is to translate them into today‘s world using today‘s technology. The unmistakable ambience it creates speaks for itself, because individuality is the true luxury today.
